Corrosion Resistance Concrete

Corrosion-resistant concrete is enhanced concrete designed to protect reinforcing steel from corrosion by creating a denser, less permeable barrier to water, oxygen, and salts, extending the structure’s lifespan. This is achieved through methods such as using low water-cement ratios, proper curing, adding corrosion inhibitors to the mix.
Advantages
- Corrosion protection can double or even triple the service life of concrete structures by safeguarding the steel rebar from damage.
- The initial investment in corrosion protection is offset by significant long-term savings. By preventing rust, cracking, and spalling, structures require less frequent and less extensive repairs over their lifetime.
- Corrosion resistance prevents this deterioration, preserving the structure's integrity and preventing potentially catastrophic failures.
Application
- Corrosion-resistant concrete has a wide range of applications, especially in environments where conventional concrete would quickly degrade due to chemical exposure, salt, or moisture.
- High rise and commercial buildings, water retaining structure, industrial facilities, marine and costal structures, and repair and rehabilitation project.
Preventive Measures
- Used RCC steel should be rust free.
- Maintain Concrete cover should be as per IS.
